The John Robert Powers LegacyJohn Robert Powers School was the founder of the very successful modeling, talent, and corporate training industry. He was also an author of three books on modeling and personal growth. Developed from Mr. Powers’ writings and books, the core curriculum at John Robert Powers Schools include everything from personality development to modeling. Our curriculum has granted huge success to many past, as well as current acting and modeling professionals. Mr. Powers’ belief that everyone is attractive, but not all are equipped with the how-to knowledge of personal development, spawned his life-long dedication to helping others. Why be someone else, when you can be yourself? Mr. Powers held true to his gospel of being natural. His female students were encouraged not to “make up” but rather to “make down.” Our belief in the Powers philosophy of being natural is taught within each of the JRP Santa Barbara Modelling School courses: be yourself. Mr. Powers headed to New York City in the 1920’s to become an actor. However, because of his business-savvy nature and outstanding entrepreneurial skills, his success was found elsewhere. An associate of Mr. Powers said that he needed a group of attractive people for magazine advertisements and upon hearing this, he gathered together his actor friends and taught each of them what to do. Almost immediately, the modeling industry was born and his “Powers Girls” became known to have the utmost poise and posture, as well as sophistication and social grace. The modeling industry of today, thanks to Mr. Powers’ vision, has since continued with terrific success. The John Robert Powers Modeling Schools have now been in existence for just over 85 years. Many people, some that were perhaps just like yourself, have sought and found great fame and fortune after attending John Robert Powers Schools. Jackie Kennedy, Diana Ross and Raquel Welch are some of the many that have attended JRP Modelling schools. Princess Grace of Monaco was a JRP Model. There have also been other greats that were Powers Models with the original JRP Modeling Agency in New York City (1920-1940) also represented these greats: Lucille Ball, Henry Fonda, Ava Gardner, Ann Margaret and Tyrone Power.
